EVAN KELMP

Evan Kelmp is one of four main characters from the Dimension 20 series "Misfits and Magic", and was created and played by Brennan Lee Mulligan. He's over six-feet tall, but slouches in on himself so badly that it can be hard to tell. He has long dark hair and very tanned/sun-burned skin, and his appearance was described as a coin-toss between 'good-looking' and 'spooky-looking'. His clothes are cheap, thrifted, and often too big for him despite his size.

He's easily one of The most characters ever. Like, what if there was a guy who was weird and awkward and obsessed with birds and also possessed by the haunting spectres of five seraphs that have been warped beyond recognition? Doesn't get any better than that. He's got a grocery bag full of every article of clothing he owns, a phone with no screen, and a desperate, selfless love for his three first and only best friends he's ever had in his life.

Evan's personality and countenance are so delightful. He's blunt and easily frustrated - he has a tendency to get loud and defensive at even small provocations. He gets paranoid about strange things, but is also too-honest about some of the weird thoughts and experiences that he's had. He gets overwhelmed very easily and cries even easier. Simultaneously very bad at handling his emotions but very good at speaking very plainly about them. Lots of people see him as being on the autism spectrum (and I, of course, agree) but I also think that he's likely somewhere on the schizospectrum as well (in addition to his whole possession scene).

There isn't a whole lot of elaboration on what's really going on with Evan's whole situation, but I certainly have a lot of thoughts about it (that certainly Aren't influenced by personal experiences,,, /s)! Aabria (the Game Master for this particular series) only had to use the term 'Biblically Accurate Angel' once to really start striking major chords and unfolding all kinds of divine madness theology in my brain.

Unlike what seems to be reflected in the broad fandom consensus, I don't actually think that the passengers Evan carries are wholly evil. I do believe that they're Seraphs - that rank of angel specifically due to the way Evan's blood will animate as a cobra when he's wounded - and the quick bit of canon theology that we do get is that "God and the devil killed each other", but there's no reason that the angels would have died with them.

Without getting too far off topic, I think that angels simply don't have a concept of "Right and Wrong" the way that humans do (Humans had the choice of the Tree of Knowledge, and ate from it, but angels did neither). I think that disparity is the cause of the tension between Evan and the Seraphim - canonically they're quiet ominous, but don't really say anything that belies an evil or particularly dangerous motive. Angels in theology heed the orders of GD - and often are utilized as both messengers and weapons, destroying cities like Sodom and Gammorah or burning the mouth of Isaiah so that he could accurately speak to the word of GD - so what would they be left to try to do if the one that was supposed to direct them was no longer around?

I don't think that they're Evil, but I do think that Evan had decent enough reason to be afraid of them.

There is a fanfiction that embodies this kind of motive and relationship between Evan and his passengers that I'm quite fond of; you can read it here!
