Review

Kind of a fun romp, although I'll admit the plot to this one confuses me a little! A couple of bogus dudes from the future make their attempt to follow in De Nomolos' footsteps by trying to disrupt the future that Bill and Ted have a hand in creating. Bill and Ted are visited by a holographic version of Rufus, who lets them know about the plot to go "back in time to capture all your friends from history to stop them from ever meeting you", except as the boys travel back in time themselves to try to prevent this from happening, it is pretty clear that the future dudes are kidnapping the historical figures who Do recognize Bill and Ted, implying they've already met and the events of Excellent Adventure have already happened for all eight of them. So I'm not entirely sure what the bad guys' plan Was going to be here.

Still, this one has some cute moments! I like the reunion scene between Billy the Kid and Socrates, and the line where Ted comments "I'm sick of meeting me." when he crosses back over his personal timestream again. It's nice to see the historical figures hang out again, and the display earns Ted some grudging respect from his dad, which always makes me happy for him. The little bonus story comic that makes up the other half of this issue is also very cute -- kind of a Bill and Ted version of the Gift of the Magi (with a sweet Rufus resolution), which I do like a lot! The bonus illustration at the end featuring Rufus, Elizabeth, and Joana recreating the Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey cover is also one of my favorites! I might have to scan it in one day to include it on this page :3c

This one also gets a huge plus from me by canonizing the fact that Bill is Jewish (twice!). It was already pretty heavily implied -- not only by the fact that Alex Winter is Jewish, but by the Face the Music intro montage that features a headline that Wyld Stallyns is doing a "Kabbalah inspired" album, which is Jewish through and through -- but it's nice to see it spelled out explicitly! I think I could have done without it being a punchline that Ted is chronically unable to remember this fact about Bill, which I can't help but find out of character, but alas! Can't win them all, I guess.
