Personal Entry Notes/Summaries: Season ONE

A collection of my summaries and notes on each of the episodes of Marble Hornets, which were originally compiled in a dedicated notebook and transcribed here for ease of access.

This page a precusor for other, more streamlined pages on this site that have more conclusive interpretations and analysis finalized. Literally, the first draft of notes used to hone in later conclusions.

  • INTRODUCTION: The original film project took place over only three months before it fell apart. "The set" (presuming there was a "main" location, or maybe this is an average between them all?) was less than a mile from Alex's house (which Jay says in E15 was kind of "in the middle of nowhere"). Filming took place over the SUMMER of 2006. The fact that none of the tapes have timestamps is actually very interesting given that part of Alex's paranoid reason for filming was likely a fear of losing time. Was this something that Alex did on purpose, or could it potentially be due to corruption caused by T⊗?
  • ENTRY #1:06.20.09 - Jay provides 2 possible explanations for the missing audio track: the mix was disabled when Alex filmed it OR he went back in after teh fact and deliberately removed it. Footage shows Alex turning off the lights before trying to sneak a peek at T⊗ on his porch, presumably the lights being turned off are so it's less likely to see him when he cracks the blinds (doesn't seem to work). This footage being the ONLY strange occurrence on the tape to Jay's eyes speaks to this being a very early encounter, before it had started following Alex on the regular. Could also explain his curiosity -- if he'd already known what it was out there, he's unlike to have looked in the first place.
  • ENTRY #2: 06.21.09 - Jay assumes it takes place before the events of the previous upload. Rocky had a very extreme reaction to T⊗'s presence, set around Midnight, some place between Alex's house and the "Marble Hornets set" -- curious to know which location was considered THE set of the movie. Possibly whatever park with the Gazebo and the Red Tower, since most of s1 features those locations more than the others. Noteworthy to me that Alex was out walking his dog around midnight in the first place -- says he "got home late" but doesn't mention why; possible indication of insomnia present even before T⊗ showed up visually in his life?
  • ENTRY #3: 06.23.09 - Jay takes only about 2.5 minutes worth of clips from like 12 tapes to create this upload. Even if we say Alex's tapes ONLY held about one hour of footage each (some can hold up to 5 hours btw), Jay took 2 days and watched and edited like 12 hours worth of footage Minimum. It's extremely interesting to think on how Jay's filtration impacts perception of the narrative as a whole. The use of extremely short clips almost Downplays the depth of Alex's distress and paranoia, the focus on only "strange" occurrences or Alex's outbursts does a lot to Diminish Alex's normal personality. Interesting to think of how Jay shapes the narrative and how the story might have changed if Jay had edited things differently. Also again -- the short turn around between Entries 2 and 3, and Jay on twitter at this point talking about how he's forgetting to eat/sleep because he's so consumed with watching the tapes, it's equally interesting to think about what Jay might have missed in his rush/exhaustion.
  • ENTRY #4: 06.25.09 - Worth noting that prior to this upload, Jay says on Twitter that he's gone through "a good number" of tapes that "revealed nothing" -- me, I am so curious about them.
    • Anyway, another missing audio track tape -- Alex at the playground. The way he's moving and the time of day/night seem to imply he's out there for a Reason and not just a situation he stumbled into. Seems a little frantic/rattled. Jay speculates here that he DID in fact remove the audio himself -- wonder what the reason could be? #3 is proof enough that Alex does narrate to the camera sometimes, so it could be that. Also could be T⊗ corruption; I know the Doyalist explanation is that Troy would define the narrative via Jay's speculation (something he typically does more for code breaking than plot points, for the record), but Diegetically, there's not much explanation for WHY Jay believes this tape was deliberately tampered with. Jay hadn't been mentioning paranoia on twitter at this time, but was posting frequently about feeling scattered/disorganized/exhausted. Something to keep in mind perhaps.
  • ENTRY #5: 06.29.09 - Jay says on Twitter that he does not like watching this footage. Alex doing a set location monologue, severe audio distortion. Entries that make you sad because the Enthusiasm Alex had for this project is so clear :(. Interesting that Alex's character Sarah was a hunter, though. "And we also have these, uh, really tall trees right in the middle, which... personally I just think are really cool" -- ALEX!! Babygirl.. Since the distortion/tearing is what Jay mentions in his titlecards, I'm assuming they're what unnerved him about the footage -- his acknowledgement that it's an Indicator of something not visible in the footage? He doesn't mention that these are events he doesn't remember, so presumably that's not the problem. Curious to know if maybe he's unsettled by the lack of visible/physical damage to the tapes? Not having a tangible indication of what could be causing the corruption (could be ignorant comment, although I've filmed on tapes similar to these in the past, I don't know a lot about how footage like that corrupts like this...), wonder if there's a tangible way to differentiate between possible tampering and genuine corruption? Since Jay doesn't speak definitively on it, I can't imagine that there is. Makes it more curious that Jay seems to adhere to the notion that Alex was deliberately tampering with footage...
  • ENTRY #6: 07.04.09 - Jay says this is likely a continuation of the footage from ENTRY #1 (#1 was at the END of a tape, #6 is right at the beginning of a new one). Alex seeming trapped inside his house while T⊗ stalks around his place. Peering in through the windows. No audio again, although Jay doesn't point it out this time. The length of this entry is potentially noteworthy -- did Alex stop filming abruptly or did Jay cut this footage down? Since this entry is markedly shorter than ones around it, I'm more inclined to think that the clip was genuinely this length. This is worth noting because Alex did not seem to End the encounter before the footage cuts -- possible indication of corruption? Maybe that's why this tape is silent; rather than being deliberate tampering on Alex's end (which I maintain doesn't make much sense, not in a short term "Alex was tampering with tapes as he recorded them" NOR a long term "Alex was playing the long game by pre-editing a bag full of tapes he was planning to burn before he impulsively gave them to Jay, which he immediately regretted so bad he did physical assault about it" explanation.)
  • ENTRY #7: 07.08.09 - Brian in the car footage, girl (possibly Sarah?) somewhere off camera, but being spoken to. It really does drive one to madness how patient/encouraging Alex sounds on these tapes, especially in contrast to how you can hear him get tense, anxious, and impatient the second he sees T⊗ in the background -- heartbreaking, I think. Anyway, Jay preempts this upload by noting on Twitter that he'd found "something unexpected" -- what's unexpected? T⊗ in the background? Although this is the first time we've tangibly seen it around people other than Alex, so perhaps this is unusual due to that. The "Someone was following Alex" title card supports this. Kind of funny that Jay only feels comfortable coming to this conclusion Now lol.
  • ENTRY #8: 07.12.09 - Jay took time off before posting this upload -- not even 5 days between uploads here, longest pause between entries prior to this about 4 days, says something about the pace Jay is working at. ANYWAY, Alex drawing -- no visual tearing, but the audio cuts out. Alex is mid-drawing when the tape goes from having audio to missing it. This still Could be argued as something Alex is editing after the fact, but this entry makes it feel an equal possibility that T⊗ very well could be the cause of missing audio -- just another form of distortion, especially since immediately after it cuts, Alex startles and gets up to turn the lights off (consistently something he does to feel hidden from T⊗) implying that it had just showed up, and the lights + audio stay missing for the remainder of the tape. Keep trying to find info on how removing audio tracks from film tapes works but frustrating lack of success.
  • ENTRY #9: 07.19.09 - Longer pause this time, Jay calls it "slow going" immediately after uploading. Footage of Alex losing his shit at the gazebo shoot, again Jay's note of it being behavior that he has "never seen" Alex act out before, it seems to be stunningly out of character for him. (Interesting that we're often Told that Alex's attitude had become intolerable to work with, but this is one of the Only clips we have out of presumed hundreds of hours of footage where Alex is notably angry in this way). For what it's worth, though, Alex is right about the pacing being fucked -- at least for this particular take. Although it is interesting, perhaps, to note that Jay has spent an entire Month of his life basically doing nothing but watching these tapes and this is the first time he's seen this attitude from Alex, but Tim and Sarah in the footage are equally on edge and do kind of "lash out" Before Alex does (Alex doesn't notably raise his voice until after Tim and Sarah testily complain about the number of takes, filming location, and post-shoot scheduling; IMO he still sounds moderately patient when telling them to redo the scene and trying to keep his temper while Tim and Sarah bitch him out. Only gets particularly aggressive after Seth stops filming, but even this cools off pretty quickly like he's deliberately reigning himself in) -- an indication that T⊗ was present and affecting them all in that moment? Or maybe Alex managed to destroy most other tapes where he acted similarly -- BUT I actually think this might be the ONLY college-era tape where we see this kind of lashing out from Alex? We'll have to revisit, off the top of my head he sounds kind of quiet/sullen in the tape he attacks Brian in, short and irritated with Tim's but nothing quite this Loud, and maybe this annoyed in the tape from Jay's attack, but everything else is more or less "baseline Alex" when he's around other people TO MY CURRENT MEMORY. Pay attention, it's worth noting. The popular interpretation of Alex as constantly shouting/hair trigger temper might be more fandom distortion than anything actually seen in footage.
  • REGARDS: 07.22.09 - feels worth noting that #9 was the impetus for the TTA channel's creation. Nothing to comment on footage of Alex seeming frightened/upset/anxious but deliberately highlighting Alex's Anger instead. Giving it more weight since it's so infrequent?
  • ENTRY #10: - 07.28.09 - "Delay" due in part to increasing insomnia in Jay and also a 104 degree fever. No audio tape, Alex sprinting away from T⊗, shakily scanning the treeline with a flashlight for it. "Has him running now" Jay comments. Kind of interesting what indications of Fear he takes the time to highlight and which ones he doesn't; could mean nothing but you know.
  • OPERATOR: 07.31.09 - Jay "confirms" background audio likely to be tracks from footage that has been missing it. I really hope I find an answer on editing film tape audio -- how is it possible that TTA has a copy of missing audio from a tape Jay has?
  • ENTRY #11: 08.09.09 - Jay moved between these uploads, hence the delay -- no reason for the move specified. Tape of Alex sleeping, getting up to turn off the lights and check out the windows -- doesn't see anything, returns to bed. He turns the lights OFF to go check outside, and then back ON to go to sleep. Likely because the lights allow him to notice things like its shadow passing by the door when reviewing the footage afterwards. Worth noting that the Reason Alex did not see T⊗ outside was because it was already inside of his house.
  • DELUGE: 08.11.09 - Jay feeling sick again. Starting to get unnerved by the responses. ALEX WATCHING YOU code. Again, one has to wonder about TTA's motivations and how they source their information. Do they actually know this for a fact or are they just trying to scare Jay? The more I think about it, the more I think it's the former. Given everything we learn about TTA, I Don't think it makes sense that they would Know where Alex is and what he's doing enough to KNOW he's found the channel but not be filming/posting any footage of him. Pretty firmly of the belief that TTA is lying in order to deliberately antagonize Jay and increase his Paranoia surrounding Alex, rather than trying to genuinely warn him of something.
  • ENTRY #12: 08.27.09 - Jay has been sick but still going through tapes. If he IS still able to go through them at his original pace, then this is a truly insane number of tapes that he has to look through, but his health could be slowing him down somewhat -- either way there's still a Deranged amount of "normal" footage being viewed behind the scenes that isn't posted simply because Jay doesn't find it noteworthy. He notes Alex is acting "more like himself" but only finds this significant because of the distortion of the tape and T⊗ in the background. Worth noting to me the succession of events of Alex commenting "Oh! Here's Tim" IMMEDIATELY as T⊗ shows up in frame BTW.
  • IMPURITY: 09.01.09 - THERE WAS M0RE. Favorite visual from almost any TTA upload btw.
  • ENTRY #13: 09.11.09 - Jay recently went to the doctor but they didn't find anything -- average chronically ill experience TBH. Worth noting though the confirmation that "seeking help" / medical intervention does NOT matter. Footage of Alex and Jay location scouting and split up; "OPERATOR" symbol found in the wild; audio distorts and cuts out -- further confirming that this is something T⊗ CAN cause. Alex starts running at the First indication that something is "off", so he's well used to the run-ins by now. Still seems perfectly normal with Jay prior to the encounter though.
  • EXIT: 09.15.09 - Someone's footage of Jay getting the tapes out of Alex's car from the previous upload. OPERATOR/WHERE IS THE ARK codes before/after the clip. Usually used as an indicator that Brian/Tim/whoever was acting paranoid and stalking other crew at this time BUT given that we know Tim often tagged along to shoot his own Behind the Scenes footage of the work, it's actually completely possible that they had invited him along on purpose, he split up to do his own surveying of the place separate from Alex/Jay a little earlier than they did, and then spotted Jay going back to the car and filmed him largely as a Joke. Jay admits his memory of the day is fuzzy, so he might not have remembered Tim being present there.
  • ENTRY #14: 09.23.09 - Jay's paranoia/anxiety increasing in the days leading up to this upload. Operator inside Alex's house again, approaching his door to lean inside his bedroom, walking up to Alex's bed. Alex seems to Jolt up/awake, knocking the camera off-center and cutting light out of the frame before he turns the lamp on; Alex corrects the position of the camera and turns the lights back off. Jay specifies on Twitter that nothing of interest happens in the 32 minutes before Alex gets back up to change the tape. Paying closer attention to Alex fixing the door before returning to bed, you CAN totally see the blood on Alex's neck and shirt collar. Not only is it the same shirt, but Alex is already bleeding before Jay interjects the title card into the footage. I think it does mean that the footage of Alex bleeding was from a continuous line of footage that night, and not something filmed over like TTA is theoretically implying in the following upload on their own channel. I think Jay just cuts the moment where Alex turns the camera around before changing the tape. It's COMPLETELY unintelligible in the footage from the YT channel but is ABSOLUTELY visible in the DVD footage. Alex routinely sets alarms so he can stop and change tapes before they run out of film; did he even know he was bleeding as he was changing those tapes??
  • PROGRAM: 09.26.09 - BLEED MORE. The code breaking might be accurate to what TTA was attempting to accuse Alex of, but it doesn't actually make any sense given the blood on his face prior to the title card. Myth busted and all that. Presuming this is an accurate code decryption, then this is more fuel on the fire of TTA lying in order to manipulate Jay into becoming more paranoid about Alex and his history. An effective route to take given how obsessive Jay becomes about finding and watching tapes -- accusing Alex of deliberately deleting/manipulating footage is a good in to piss Jay off.
  • Entry #15: 10.02.09 - Jay filmed and uploaded this footage on the same day. Alex lived out in the middle of nowhere, and Tim lived near Brian (which wasn't anywhere near where Alex lived). I don't think we ever get any kind of indication of where Jay used to live. I do find it somewhat interesting that Tim was willing to do a screen test for Jay at all, frankly. Maybe I'm overreaching, I guess Tim does help Jay scout locations in season 3, but I also think that scouting locations is Different from screen testing in that a screen test Does imply a long-term commitment if Jay had decided he was going to actually revive the film project and wanted Tim as an actor. I don't think Tim in Season 3 would have gone for that the same way he was willing to give Jay old tapes and show him around old sets, especially given how impatiently/reluctantly Tim does those things at that point anyway. I do actually think it could make the most sense here if Tim is already a willing member of TTA and is taking the opportunity to have a direct conversation with Jay instead of communicating through tapes. ESPECIALLY since the hesitant way Tim says, "I... haven't heard from Brian either" and immediately starts fidgeting like crazy Does seem like a more overt lie on his end. Still can't help but love Jay's utter lack of subtlety in asking about strange men in business suits lurking around the sets. Also interesting how Tim seems markedly more short/impatient after Jay brings it up.
  • ADVOCATE: 10.12.09 - Noteworthy, I think, that Jay doesn't actually mention this video on twitter at all. This upload is posted one day after Jay updates on Twitter that he's still looking for leads,,, people typically take this video as an indication that Brian is in some kind of danger, but I do wonder if it was maybe posted to try to push Jay into investigating faster instead? After all, Jay is impatient but he's not very reliable, nor do I imagine anyone has any presumptions about how useful he'd be in a life-or-death situation. If we do presume that Jay's anonymous tip about Brian's location came in around this upload's date, then it might make more sense if TTA is like, threatening that whatever Jay is looking for might not be there for long?
  • ENTRY #16: 10.16.09 - Jay goes to Brian's house in the middle of the night to knock on his door and break in and demand answers. Doesn't seem to pause for thought that Brian might be home but asleep given the time of night? Makes me wonder what specifically was said in the call he got about the address. He's already acting like he knows Brian won't actually be in there. Jay didn't comment on the Advocate upload, but maybe if he did see it already, his impatience makes sense. The fact that he calls for "Alex" before Brian is also interesting, though. So is the state of Brian's house in general -- compelling to wonder if he messed everything up deliberately to set a stage? Or if he's genuinely been this dysfunctional since college. Brian's main floor is covered in magazine clippings and coupons. He has his mattress in his hall closet with some blankets and seems to be sleeping in there. Power is out, water bottle in his sleep closet (some visual tearing in the closet; Jay has a bad coughing fit right after leaving it). Piles of trash bags left inside. Upstairs doors mostly locked from the inside. Dried blood in the upstairs sink (a lot of it) and several pill bottles, Alex's drawings, a spent bullet casing. The locked doors inside could either indicate Brian's general paranoia (that he doesn't like having open rooms that anyone could get into when he's not paying attention) OR could indicate that he was aware Jay might break in and wanted to keep him out of certain places. NOTE though that the blood in the sink doesn't seem indicative of an INJURY to me, however -- I think there should be significantly more blood on the floor than there is if that's the case; I think the sink makes it more indicative of T⊗'s presence causing the usual coughing up blood than anything else. Similarly, I think the inclusion of the bullet casing next to the imitations of Alex's hypergraphia papers seems deliberately staged to me. We've never been given any indication that this is a pattern of behavior that anyone Other than Alex does, and I don't think it makes sense that Brian would have just had access to / kept Alex's original papers from college. I think it's more likely he made them himself and left them with the bullet to again, worsen Jay's paranoia surrounding Alex. EVEN IF Alex had been at Brian's house to do violence, there's not a chance in hell he would have brought those papers with him, and IF Brian was wounded seriously, then which of them has the time to be making those papers to leave at the scene in order to implicate Alex?? I think it has to be a staged scene. ESPECIALLY since we Do know that Brian will use these imitations of Alex's papers to leave a hint for Jay - we Know that Brian made those and Alex didn't.
  • ADDITION: 10.21.09 - SEE YOU. SAW YOU. Jay has a strong reaction to this one on Twitter: "Totheark is MOCKING me". Interesting to note that there is seemingly always a member of TTA in the house when Jay is there. Do they genuinely live in the house, so they know when Jay is breaking in? Or does Jay turn around and go directly to the house whenever they prompt him, so they know to anticipate him?
  • ENTRY #17: 11.02.09 - Jay is disturbed by this footage before uploading it, given that he doesn't remember any of it in any capacity. Alex really is more patient on these early tapes than anyone gives him credit for. I know that Jay is just running through lines for practice when Brian's not there, but Yikes his pacing is fucked; not surprised Alex doesn't linger on this exercise with them very long lmao. The subtle dig Tim seems to get in with "Who wrote this dialogue with you Alex?" is kind of funny to me though. T⊗ in the background window makes it clear that his presence isn't Always indicated by violent physical symptoms in people -- Jay feels cold, but he's the only one, and no one seems notably frustrated or ill at all. Jay says he's planning on going to go back to the house. Actually, it's kind of noteworthy to me that Alex seems to be,, presumed exempt? From the massive memory loss around the college years -- Jay has no frame of reference for a lot of things, and Tim is presumably the same, but it's a pretty consistent presumption that Alex remembers everything that happened in college (both by Jay and by audience members). Why is that?
  • SIGNAL: 11.05.09 - Video says "COME BACK", description says "again". More impatience from TTA; kind of strengthens the notion for me that Advocate might be less about danger and more about trying to get Jay to do things as quickly as possible. Seems to backfire a little; Jay gets vocally reluctant on twitter until his audience bullies him into it lol.
  • ENTRY #18: 11.10.25 - Jay filmed and uploaded this footage on the same day. Feels interesting that despite his own hesitancy, Jay still opts to arrive in the middle of the night instead of stopping by during the day. I do actually feel this heavily implies he was already anticipating having to break in the first time he went to Brian's house -- if he doesn't want to be seen by neighbors, this does make the most sense for Why Jay is doing this. Brian's house is notably more disorganized. The inclusion of the slender doll noteworthy to me, because like, it Has to be staged, right? There's no way Brian just made that and kept it around for no reason; he had to have made it to deliberately leave for Jay to find, right? Anyway, Tim is posted up on the couch and barrels in at Jay when found. Winds up seizing, but is able to run off before Jay can unmask him. Once again interesting that Jay presumes it's Alex -- possible indication that he's subconsciously starting to buy into TTA's propaganda? I kind of can't imagine the seizure was part of the plan, so I wonder what the plan was Supposed to be? Tim is clearly sitting there in Waiting for Jay, wasn't just stumbled into.
    • Timeline is actually a little confusing to me here. On Twitter, 12AM 11.09 Jay says he's going back to the house "tomorrow", but posts at 10:45AM 11.10 that he's back, but uses phrase "woke up the next morning" in the video. Maybe the 12AM is the sticking point here, and Jay did go the night of 11.09?
  • MESSAGES: 11.21.09 - TELL US, YOU HAVE BEEN KEEPING, SECRETS. SMILE FOR THE CAMERA - teasing Tim's face. Trying to pin down the TTA dynamics is such a pain lmao. I'm presuming that Tim might not have cleared the plan with Brian beforehand? Difficult to try to pin down either way if Tim maybe Wasn't a member of TTA before this, or if he was and he'd just pissed off Brian by going out on his own.
  • ENTRY #19: 11.25.09 - Jay confesses he's been filming himself constantly for about a month, but only checks it weekly. The footage he includes in this upload take place two nights after he returns from Brian's house in Entry #18. The fact that Tim has escalated behavior this quickly makes me feel like he can't possibly be new to TTA; like the notion that he'd cottoned on to Jay's investigation only after the Entry #15 interview and is doing his own peek around on his own doesn't feel like it makes any sense in line with this upload. Jay is missing time from that night, and his paranoia has worsened significantly. He's getting maudlin on twitter about it.
  • RETURN: 12.02.09 - the missing footage of Jay from Entry #19, and the Operator in his hallway. In footage text reads "FOUND YOU". 91 in description. The casual inclusion of T⊗ like this feels wild. Maybe even a little out of place?
  • ENTRY 19.5: 12.09.09 -Inventory check. Label torn off the pill bottle and the pills that were inside are now missing. Jay speculates Tim stole them when he broke into his house, but admits it's a possibility he might have taken them without remembering. "SEES ME AT THE TOWER" note unlocked. Insane to me that Jay chooses to film this in the dark; what's his problem? Jay is going through the last of his tapes now.
  • ENTRY #20: 12.15.09 - Jay doesn't have any memory of when this footage takes place. This is taking place in Brian's house, but Brian is notably absent, and no one knows where he's at. Jay comments on twitter that he doesn't know who could have been behind the camera. Tape distortion (note: possibly why Brian is absent?). Tim is late and clearly not feeling well - static when he's on film; has a huge coughing fit off screen. When Tim excuses himself, Alex goes to make sure all his lines are "highlighted for him" to make sure things are going smoothly so they don't have to stretch things out and make Tim feel worse. Alex frets over him a little too. This footage might not be edited down by Jay at all? He comments that pieces are missing and out of order; a more complex form of T⊗ distortion than we've seen on tapes before.
  • VERSION: 12.17.09 - Word salad start letters spell out 'PRECEDES TREES', which is an anagram for 'DEEPER SECRETS'. 'WAITING FOR YOU' in plain text in the footage as well. 'S' in the description. Confirmation of Jay's suspicion that the tower is the next place to go. More examples of TTA pushing Jay to hurry up and go to locations when they want him to; it's only been a couple of days since Jay came to a conclusion about the tower, but they're already impatient.
  • ENTRY #21: 12.21.09 - Jay filmed and uploaded this footage on the same day. He treks out to the red tower, goes in to investigate. Interesting to note that his Twitter seems to experience some corruption while he's out there. At 3:44PM before Jay starts walking back to his car he tweets out a string of gibberish, and later that night notes "Just noticed the "jBdzj!zö&&+555n?21" update. It originally said "found something". No idea what happened to it." Which is fun. Presumably 3:40 is around when he'd found the tape at the top of the tower, probably after he fell off the top of it though.
  • ENTRY #22: 12.22.09 - Jay doesn't like this tape. "Don't want to upload the footage. But it needs to be somewhere in case something happens to the tape. Or me." This can't possibly be a set scout being recorded, given that Alex always does those during the day when it actually makes sense to be able to look around and determine whether a location would work for the film. They're wandering around an abandoned building, presumably a basement? Alex repeatedly double checks to make sure the camera is rolling. Seth whispers, "I don't know where we are." Both Seth and Alex seem notably on edge, between how often they scan the surroundings and how they both keep their voices lowered. This is a location that Jay gets unwittingly teleported to later in the series -- possible that the same thing happened to Alex and Seth? This is the same tape that ends with Alex's "Everyone is gone" monologue -- it's possible that Alex and the rest of the crew All became aware of T⊗ in college and were investigating it together?? Or at the very least began experiencing things as a group, not Just Alex being affected on his own. The subtitles note Seth as being the one who says "back away from it" after Alex decides to leave once they find an excess of blood in the area. Alex seems restless and impatient to leave once they find that, and you can hear his footsteps continuing to leave even after Seth turns around to investigate around the corner. There's no sound of impact when Seth collapses, but there is notable distortion. Alex's voice is difficult to tell in Distance how far away he is, but I think it's worth noting that when we do see Alex actively attack Tim in later tapes, he doesn't speak at all -- I don't actually think Alex attacks Seth in this footage. I really Don't think Alex is lying when he says he doesn't remember what happened, and the way he says "We were the only two left, and I left him",,, Like I do think it makes a lot of sense that they Could have been all actively aware of and investigating T⊗, at least more than Alex just riffing and making all of this up as he goes along. I'll reiterate that I don't think it makes sense with Any possible motivations of Alex to have deliberately set up a false narrative on these tapes when he was legitimate in his desire to burn and forget them. I am curious as to whose house he wakes up in -- it isn's his. He also has the tape, but not the camera. I don't think Alex is lying when he says he's missing huge chunks of memory. I think he might have even recorded this tape and his intention to burn the others as a reminder to Himself just in case he forgot more. DYING to know what he was running from and where he ran to; it's all incredibly vague.
  • ATTENTION: 01.11.10 - Jay has been vocally impatient for this update from TTA on twitter. "RETURN TO US", "WAKE UP", "AWAITING YOUR ARRIVAL", and the tower. Kind of interesting that they don't comment on Alex's recording.
  • ADMISSION: 01.16.10 - red distorted footage of someone walking in a hallway. "THERE ARE DOORS UNOPENED". More impatience from TTA, especially since Jay noted the previous upload but then didn't really do anything about it.
  • ENTRY #23: 01.29.10 - Jay has been losing track of time significantly before filming/uploading this footage, possibly why it takes him so long to get anything done this time. Jay finally goes back to the house, in the daytime for once. The front door is seemingly wide open this time. Some areas of the house have been cleaned, while others are still in notable disrepair. Slender doll makes a reappearance; Jay tries to chase after Tim but winds up teleported around the house instead. Seemingly some time distortion as well? Jay winds up appearing back into the same basement that the tape of Alex and Seth was filmed in -- arguably supporting the idea that they had been unwittingly teleported there that night as well. Jay also has his first direct face-to-face encounter with T⊗ here right at the end of the tape. Actually think it's an interesting audio distortion happening here -- Jay says "Hello?" once, and then this clip of audio seems to repeat faintly throughout the rest of the footage. I think it is an echo of the exact audio clip and not Jay repeatedly calling out. Also seems noteworthy that Jay's camera broke here, mirroring Seth's camera going missing at the same location. Jay declares intent to give up. Afterwards on Twitter, says quitting has left him feeling absolutely "functionless"
  • WARNING: 02.03.10 - TTA making fun of Jay's "Introduction" title card will never get old. 'EYES OPEN' 'STAY AT HOME' 'BE ALONE' 'SMILE FOR THE CAMERA' 'REGARDS' 'SMILE FOR DEATH'. Description reads "failure nigh". Jay is notably lethargic about this upload on Twitter, but his paranoia worsens afterwards, hence why he's combing his surveillance footage again for the next upload. Wonder whose Failure TTA is warning against -- Jay's investigation/peace of mind? Or their own if they can't get Jay back on track searching for Alex?
  • ENTRY #24: 02.17.10 - Surveillance footage of Jay's apartment -- has a multi-camera set up now. Jay leaves his bedroom lamp on to sleep, and doesn't shut off the TV in the other room. Interesting that we Hear the sound of Jay's door closing from the outside camera, but don't see it. He's missing for two hours. Not really any indication of where Jay had gone based off of his demeanor, but could be notable that he seemed to be in a frustrated insomnia state before leaving, and seemingly goes Immediately to sleep upon returning.
  • ######: 03.05.10 - First upload TTA has posted on the main MH channel. Implies a particular impatience on their end perhaps? "We will wait for you no more. Control is being taken away from you. From the start it's been a game for us - not anymore. I'm coming for you, and you will lead me to the ark" These last two TTA uploads being a notable deviation from their usual film style is interesting to note as well. Prior to this upload, Jay commented on Twitter that he felt like he was being watched constantly, and Jay vacates his apartment pretty quickly after it's uploaded.
  • ENTRY #25: 03.25.10 - Someone messaged Jay the day earlier with the news about his apartment burning down. A lot of people default to blaming Alex for this fire, but I risk making myself a broken record, I'm not sure how much sense that makes. If we want to point to Alex's later attempt to burn down Tim's house as a pattern, then it has to be noted that Tim is implied to have been the one who burned down the hospital long before that, right? The news corruption is diegetic though, not something Jay edited in to keep his location secret. He comments on twitter he doesn't want to think about what caused it.
  • ENTRY #26: 04.19.10 - Jay has been changing locations frequently out of paranoia, but besides that has been improving significantly in his mental state, which is kind of an interesting contrast. Also interesting is that he films his intention to quit before receiving the text, but didn't make any mention of these developments on twitter. The tape at Jay's door is delivered the day before this footage is uploaded. The tape has what may be old or new footage - we see the Skull Masked figure being filmed through the peep hole of a door, and footage of someone's back in Night Vision mode. This might be current footage of Jay sneaking around, but looking at it again, I think it's actually old film project era footage of Tim, possibly at the old hospital location (It's hard to tell based off of body type here, but the hair looks slightly longer than Jay has ever kept his, and notably the person is not holding a camera). When Amy begins filming on 04.04, this is the same date the text was sent. Noteworthy, perhaps, that this footage has a timestamp while earlier footage on the film doesn't. Alex is notably unsettled by the sight of the camera; his tense demeanor is unusual enough that Amy comments on it straight away, which makes it feel safe to assume that Alex hasn't been having long-lasting emotional effects from what happened in college. Alex talks like they probably moved after college. They encounter the Operator and flee the house; Alex seems like he's trying to keep calm/reassuring when he tells Amy to go through the window, but also seems frantic underneath that. This request for help is often presumed to be false, but I think it's worth noting that if Alex was aware enough of Jay's location to get a package delivered to his front door, then he also had the perfect opportunity to assault Jay then and there (and had the perfect opportunity to do so given that Jay had not been updating on Twitter at all before this moment). The package had a return address, and despite his previous vow to quit, Jay decides to go find him. "I thank you for the help".
