As with all of my interests, I'm a little bit deranged about this show :3 I started watching it sometime late Summer 2019 while I was staying over at my abuelos' house and saw The Novocaine Mutiny come on the TV Guide, so I just decided to hop in and I haven't really looked back since! My mom considers it one of my 'lamest' interests lmao; she says that it's a show for Old People, which I mostly think is funny given the show's boom in popularity on tumblr in like 2020. A few of my college professors also teased me a lot for how often I was able to work this show into my school projects. #autismgang. Anyway, it's not a perfect show but I enjoy it a lot and I think there's a lot to love about it, so here's a dedicated page for highlighting just that!

love that in 3x15 bombed margaret gets trapper to come with her so he can use that certain je ne sais quoi to open the door to the supply room for her and then she just opens it herself

so the take on hawkeye i’ve landed on is that he wants to be seen and understood and acknowledged so much that he theatrically projects himself, like he’s emoting to the back row, and ironically this often makes people less inclined to take him seriously
and I don’t mean in a calculated way (usually), I mean more in a habitual ingrained unconsidered behaviour way. from actual jokes and ott theatrics to just like how he moves and phrases things and emotes
this is not the reason for all his theatrics (he also just likes to entertain people and have fun) and it’s not his only modus operandi (he can definitely be lowkey in certain moods and in certain situations) but I do think it’s a consistent recurring pattern for him
I keep thinking of that moment in Period of Adjustment where he puts on the helmet before walking in to see BJ, and then looks very taken aback and uncomfortable when BJ laughs. because he didn’t do it to ease the tension or to downplay his hurt feelings with a joke or to be funny at all. he’s just expressing himself. far from the only example I have but it’s the scene that first made me stop and think about the whys behind the theatrics

I wonder if Sidney leaving in the operating room in GFA after he was sure of Hawkeye’s well-being was also him realizing he could never truly just be Hawkeye’s friend again, that he would always be Hawkeye’s therapist first. I mean, Sidney was the loneliest of all of them if you really think about it. If nobody is quite sane in Korea, everyone’s your patient. If everyone’s your patient, who’s left to be your friend? Sidney lived on the road, never truly a member of the 4077. Especially in the earlier seasons, Hawkeye was one of the only friends Sidney could lean on, until his mind started breaking. I wonder when Sidney knew that reciprocity needed to end, for Hawkeye’s sake. I wonder how he coped with being alone.
